A one-of-a-kind functional teapot, individually hand-built in stoneware using coiling and hand-sculpting techniques. Its rounded body, raised feet and elongated asymmetrical elements reflect an interest in Japanese ceramic forms while retaining a distinctly contemporary and personal character.
The surface was developed using a handmade, non-commercial, food-safe glaze and soda-fired in an oxidation atmosphere in a gas kiln. Two firings produced layered variations of deep turquoise, teal, earthen brown and smoky gray. Subtle shifts in color, texture and surface are unique results of the atmospheric firing and form an integral part of the work.
The teapot is fully functional and can be used for preparing and serving tea, while also existing as an original sculptural object.
